Psychiatry

Rales JFS offers psychiatric evaluations, as well as medication management for children, adolescents and adults. Clients have access to cost-effective, quality psychiatric services with minimal wait time for appointments. Psychiatric evaluations and medication management are performed by providers who are experienced in treating, anxiety, depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, mood and psychotic disorders.

Through our partnership with the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine’s residency program, Supervised by a Pediatric and General Licensed Psychiatrist Dr. Ashley Beattie, Rales JFS is able to expand our psychiatry services to include treating children and adolescents.

Rales JFS is happy to announce Dr. David Beaman, Psychiatrist, MD, PMH-C is currently seeing patients along with our two Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Margaret Gorelick and Rachel Pittell, who has joined our Psychiatry team in response to our continued community need for Psychiatry.

Dr. Beaman completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville and medical degree at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He subsequently began his residency at Florida Atlantic University in general psychiatry and has called Florida home ever since. He likewise pursued additional certification for perinatal mental health. Dr. Beaman’s method blends a deep understanding of the biological basis of care with a rich appreciation of the social and psychological aspects that can affect mental health. He strongly believes that the goal of treatment isn’t just to reduce symptoms, but to enable patients to live fulfilling lives. While he is knowledgeable in all fields of adult psychiatry, he has particular expertise with bipolar disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and perinatal mental health.

Margaret Gorelick joins us from Stamford Hospital in Connecticut where she diligently served as a psychiatric APRN for 5 years, working on the inpatient psych unit as well as completing psychiatric consults on the medical floor and ER. Prior to Stamford Hospital, Margaret worked as a psychiatric nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital inpatient psych. She has expertise in geriatric psychiatry, as she has worked alongside and collaborated closely with the geriatric team in Stamford. She also has 5 years of med-surg nursing background at Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC.

Rachel Pittell is a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in child and adolescent psychiatry. After earning a nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University, she began her career as an inpatient psychiatric nurse, working with children and adolescents at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Driven by a passion to further impact patient care, Rachel pursued a Nurse Practitioner degree from Florida International University. With a deep commitment to providing compassionate mental health care, Rachel worked as an inpatient psychiatric nurse practitioner in Baltimore, specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents. Currently, Rachel brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team at JFS, continuing to provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric care.

Psychological Testing

Rales JFS offers psychological evaluations comprised of a series of tests designed to gather information on an individual’s cognitive, academic, behavioral and emotional strengths and deficits. Evaluations are vital in determining the individual’s need for further assistance or accommodations.

  • Psychosocial

  • Vocational aptitude

Assessments offered at Rales JFS:

  • Early-stage intervention for dementia

  • Extended-time accommodations for testing

  • Memory issues including dementia

Additional Information:

  • Adaptive Testing: Used to determine impairments in self-help and daily living skills.

  • Autism Testing: Used to determine impairments in language use, peer and adult socialization, sensory concerns, and emotional reactivity.

  • Gifted Testing (IQ): Used to determine intellectual abilities and level of cognitive talents.

  • Neuropsychological Testing: Assessment of attention, learning, processing, reasoning, memory, and problem-solving. Often used in the identification of attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder (ADHD).

  • Personality Testing: Assessment of emotional states, motivation, attitudes, and approaches to relationships.

  • Psychoeducational Testing: Assessment academic achievement in reading, mathematics, and writing. Often used to identify the presence of a specific learning disability or intellectual disability.

  • Psychological Testing Assessment used to determine the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, depression, and anxiety in adults and children.

Divorced Women Support Group

Rales JFS now offers a support group designed for women struggling with the emotional effects of divorce and separation. Untying the knot can be a difficult and emotional roller coaster.  Facilitated by one of our therapists the group provides a supportive and therapeutic environment for you to turn inward and begin to create a sense of balance in your life. Some of the topics include Beginning the Healing Process, Managing Emotions, Reconciliation, Single Parenting, Co-parenting and more.

LGBTQ+ Support

Rales JFS is sensitive to the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Our counseling department assists the LGBTQ+ community and their families by providing:

  • Individual Counseling

  • LGBTQ+ resources and referral services

  • On-going LGBTQ+ staff training and education

  • Participation in LGBTQ+ community events
