Fashion Icon And Award Winning Author Tim Gunn Inspires As Keynote Speaker at Reflections of Hope Luncheon
Rales JFS held its annual Reflections of Hope Luncheon on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton. Each year, this event aims to shed a light on mental health and break the stigma surrounding this topic that affects so many. Tim Gunn served as keynote speaker, sharing his personal journey with mental health and the rode to healing.
With over 625 guests in attendance, the ballroom immediately became silent as he spoke openly about the challenges he faced as a teen and young adult. His message was to seek out the people you trust and do not be ashamed or scared to ask for help. He acknowledged that while he had support from his family, a psychiatrist, coupled with counseling, saved his life. Several attendees approached Tim in tears after he spoke, expressing their appreciation for his candor and authenticity. Event Co-Chair, Joanna Drowos stated, "It was so powerful to have more than 600 caring members of our community come together to eliminate the stigma and raise funds for crucial mental health services for our community. Tim Gunn delivered a powerful message on the importance of asking for help, and of knowing that you are not alone. Rales Jewish Family services provides lifesaving services and support to all members of our community regardless of age, background or financial ability."
Danielle Hartman, President & CEO of Rales JFS shared, “When we need help, we ask a friend for a therapist recommendation. We don’t think twice about the cost or whether our insurance covers it. But that’s not the case for everyone. In 2024, Rales JFS provided over 9,700 sessions of counseling, psychiatry, and psychological testing. Half of those sessions required financial assistance.” While the Reflections of Hope Luncheon aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health, it also serves as an appeal to the community for their support. Rales JFS intends to neve turn anyone away due to financial hardships, so the support from the community will go a long way to ensure that anyone who needs these services can receive them.

Sweet Deeds & Sweet Treats: Polo Club Residents Bring Joy and Sundaes to Weisman Seniors!
| |
|
The residents of the Polo Club brought smiles and sundaes to seniors at the Weisman Center in celebration of their Good Deeds Day. Resident David Weinstein shared that, "This is such a rewarding way to spend our day." The Weisman Center members were treated to a vocal performance by Barry Roberts, who sang everything from Neil Diamond to Frank Sinatra. The crowd worked up an appetite with all of their singing and dancing, so the Good Deeds Club provided ice cream sundaes, complete with sprinkles and chocolate sauce. Rales JFS truly appreciates the generosity and willingness that went into making this a marvelous Monday!

Meet Alana Hoch: Vice Chair of Board Development at Rales JFS
For nearly a decade Alana Hoch has worked at UBS Financial Services, where she enhanced existing relationships and sourced new client opportunities. She also cultivated strategic partnerships with other industry professionals who advise high net worth individuals. She worked with families on philanthropic planning and giving, with a passion for engaging and educating the next generation(s) on financial literacy and philanthropic ideals.
Alana graduated with a B.A. in Finance from the University of Miami and a JD/MBA from Nova Southeastern University. She is a fully licensed sales associate in the financial industry, as well as a member of the Florida State Bar. Alana received her designation as a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy, enriching her ability to make a meaningful and effective impact on philanthropic individuals, families, and organizations.
For many years Alana has been actively involved in leadership roles with various Jewish organizations throughout Palm Beach County. She is currently Vice Chair of Board Development at Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services, serves as a member of the Investment Committee and on the Board at the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and is a Board member at B’nai Torah Congregation. “As the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors on my father’s side and devoted philanthropic Zionists on my mother’s side, I’ve always felt a responsibility to support Jewish organizations and the State of Israel. My commitment to Holocaust education and the importance of caring for the survivors was further solidified after witnessing the atrocities firsthand as a participant on the March of the Living.
While it was their multifaceted support of survivors in our community that first drew me to Rales JFS, I quickly learned that was only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the breadth of amazing and life changing work they do. I am proud to be associated with such an impactful organization and for the opportunity to work alongside its incredible staff and leadership.” Alana also has the privilege and honor of participating in the Wexner Heritage Program, a Jewish learning and leadership development program for volunteer leaders in North America.
Over the last five years Alana has been tasked with the most rewarding job of all - being a mother to her son Jasper and daughter Layla. She lives in Boca Raton with her family, and enjoys cooking, traveling, music, the Miami Heat, art, and photography.

From Survival to Strength: A Mother & Daughter’s Journey to Healing with Rales JFS
Karyn and her daughter, Brittany, have endured a traumatic experience together. Trapped in an abusive marriage, Karyn narrowly escaped with her daughter to find safety. Brittany had witnessed much of the abuse, leading to panic attacks and difficulty sleeping. Karyn felt helpless and overwhelmed, struggling with a lack of financial independence while also managing her own autoimmune disease diagnosis. Desperate for support, she reached out to the Domestic Abuse Education & Action Team at Rales JFS, finding a lifeline for herself and her daughter. They provided financial assistance for a summer teen program that Karyn described as “the most therapeutic, healing, and wonderful experience for Brittany.” Additionally, Karyn received school supplies and a gift card to use as needed. Now, she feels a deep sense of gratitude and relief, inspiring her to give back and help others in need. She wants other women to know about the resources and support she received from Rales JFS, emphasizing how caring the staff was during that difficult time.
