Meet Joe

Through partnerships with synagogues, day schools and other community-based organizations, JFS Community Outreach bring JFS’ programs and services into the “community” helping families and individuals gain access to the available supports as easily and efficiently as possible.

Joe was referred to the JFS Community Outreach by synagogue partner, Boca Jewish Center, because he had a very difficult year. He was furloughed and then laid off from his 21-year career with an airline due to the pandemic. A couple of months later, he contracted Covid-19 and was in the hospital for two weeks on a ventilator. Joe thankfully survived, but now has to be on oxygen 24 hours a day which make it incredibly difficult to find a new job. Joe’s wife is unemployed but spends time caring for her husband. The couple were on the brink of eviction, as unemployment benefits weren’t enough to support the family. JFS was able to provide them with 3 months of rent through the Covid relief fund. The JFS outreach coordinator also referred them to the JFS food pantry, and to other community resources that are helping the family to recover during this difficult time.

Highlights

A total of over $433,000 in non-COVID-related emergency financial assistance was provided this year.

Over 200 Jacobson Family Food Pantry Food Drives were held throughout the year.

Over 210,000 pounds of food was distributed through the Jacobson Family Food Pantry.
