Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services is proud to announce Joanna Drowos as our January Donor of the Month. Joanna, Bryan, Lila (age 14) and Jackson Drowos (age 12) are a family that strongly believes in giving back to their community. Their first discovery of Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services began with registering for a volunteer opportunity together at the Jacobson Family Food Pantry. It was through that experience that they learned all about the many programs and services offered through Rales JFS. Food insecurity, mental health, and supporting seniors, particularly Holocaust Survivors, are what are most important to them. Their favorite volunteer opportunity is the Annual Thanksgiving Banquet. The Drowos Family always shows up dressed in theme, full of smiles, and ready to take part in bringing seniors together for a beautiful meal.
Aside from consistently volunteering, Joanna serves on our Board of Directors. At a recent Board Retreat, Joanna was able to speak with community members and hear firsthand how Rales JFS has changed their lives. This moving and powerful experience motivates both her and her family to ensure that the community will continue to grow, even long after they are gone. As a partner in a wealth management firm, Bryan is also involved in working with other professionals who share their philanthropic views on legacy giving. Joanna and Bryan hope to model for their children the responsibility to care for others in the community. It is important to them that they leave behind a legacy that works toward solving the financial and social issues that surround them. They shared, “While every dollar helps further the mission of Rales JFS, and we’re so glad to be a part of it, we know we are just one of many families and donors who give our time and treasure to Rales JFS. We also know there are so many who are not Rales JFS donors….yet. We hope to introduce and inspire others to become part of the great work done by Rales JFS.”
They want others to know that they appreciate what other community members do and promise to continue to do all that they can to help the vulnerable. When they are not working or in school, the Drowos Family loves to travel, read, sports, and spending time together. They were inspired to start a blog documenting these memories and moments.
