Rales JFS Welcomes
Alan Swimmer to the Board of Directors
Alan
and his wife, Jill, have resided in Parkland since 2008. A New
Haven, Connecticut native, he is a member of Temple Beth El and has 3
grown children.
Originally
a Certified Public Accountant, Alan’s professional experience includes
ownership of a finance company focusing on yacht lending and managing
the seizure of ocean-going vessels in both domestic and foreign
waters. In addition, he has experience in the construction
equipment rental industry and residential real estate development and
has served numerous professional organizations in those fields.
Alan’s
commitment to local Jewish charitable causes was heightened during a
Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Israel Mission in
2017. Since that time, he has become an active supporter of several
area Jewish causes. He looks forward to making a meaningful
contribution to Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services while
serving on its Board of Directors.
Welcome to the family, Alan!

Today Rales JFS is remembering Bart Weisman (z’l), who along with his wife, Shirley,
are longtime supporters of the agency. Bart is remembered for his
honesty, integrity, generosity, and love of family and Jewish tradition.
In
2010, the Shirley and Barton Weisman Delray Community Center opened its
doors with a generous gift from the Weisman’s. Bart and Shirley chose
to name the Weisman Center because of their desire to ensure that local
seniors had a “home away from home” where they could find
community.
| |
Now a focal point for seniors in the area, the Weisman Center offers over 200 classes,
social interaction, activities, lectures, entertainment, and access to
social services each day and has become a life line for so many aging
seniors. The Weisman Center continues to thrive with almost 700 members
who love coming as often as possible to participate in the myriad of
programs and services afforded to them there. His profound impact and
legacy lives on through his, their children and many grandchildren.
If you would like to learn more about the Weisman Center or stop by for a tour, please call (561) 558-2100.

From Loneliness to Love:
How a Friendly Visitor Transformed June's life
|
June
recently moved to Palm Beach County to escape the cold winters. She
relocated not knowing anyone in the area. With both her sons living far
away and no family left to visit, she felt isolated, spending every day
in her room, depressed and lonely. A volunteer from the Rales JFS
Friendly Visitor Program, selected by a Rales JFS Care Manager,
contacted June and arranged to meet. The
volunteer started visiting her weekly, and they quickly became friends,
developing a “bubbie/granddaughter" closeness. On her birthday, when
she would have been alone, the volunteer brought her flowers and
balloons.
| |
June
is much happier now because of the companionship and support she
receives from the volunteer through the Rales JFS Friendly Visitor
program. Her quality of life has improved greatly.

In the Kitchen with
Celebrity Chef Alan
This week at the Weisman Delray Center, Rales JFS clients joined us as Celebrity Chef Alan
prepared a delicious Chicken Cacciatore that everyone was able to taste
and enjoy. Through our grant with Florida Blue we are able to continue
to have Chef Alan come and do these wonderful presentations.
He utilized ingredients available from the Jacobson Family Food Pantry,
giving clients an opportunity to enjoy this meal at home. Attendees
were also able to shop for fresh produce, supplied by the Florida Blue
Mobile Van.
|
The
Jacobson Family Food Pantry delivers non-perishable groceries, fresh
fruits, vegetables, and challah, every other week, free of charge, to
those experiencing food insecurity. We also have many clients who come
to shop in the pantry every other week.
